Adding a new theme
FrenchBy default, wordPress installs including two themes. Here's the way to add more…
Classical method
- go to http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/
- Look for a theme you fancy
- Download the theme (zip file) in local mode
- Expand the archive onto your desktop, for example
- Copy the theme’s folder in wp-content/themes/
- transfer the folder via ftp
- Go back to your blog, on the Web, and go into the menu Appearance > Themes
- Click on your theme’s image and activate it
It’s all new!
Starting with WordPress 2.8, you can visualize and install themes directly from your blog’s admin, provided they’re new, highlighted or recently updated. Display is limited to the first 15, however.
Since version 2.8 still, you can also install a theme from the admin (“Send” tab) by getting a zip file downloaded in local mode.

- Each theme is tagged: have a look at the cloud at http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/tags/
- Starting with 2.8, there’s an internal search engine in the blog’s admin.
