Wordpress.com or Wordpress.org ?

If your blog’s address looks like http://myblogname.wordpress.com¹ you’re probably in the first case. If you’ve looked for a host, bought a domain name and downloaded wordpress from wordpress.org, you’ll know you’re in the second case…

To summarize, starting your blog at http://wordpress.com/ gives you greater comfort as you won’t need to worry about maintenance, updates, security and workload rises. However, you’ll be limited in terms of blog configuration as you won’t be able to install plugins, themes² or modify the php code.

In case you download wordpress from http://wordpress.org/, you will take advantage of the theme and plugins’ community of developpers, you can change anything you want in the code but… you will need to make sure you blog survives attacks, spam, wordpress- and its plugins- updates and workload rises!
