Slideshows using WordPress Gallery Slideshow

Here's another plugin that enables slideshow integration. Compared to Nextgen, it focuses on the slideshow function. Its author decided to keep it simple and efficient, as it is able to integrate photos from the blog as well as pictures from flickr, picasa…

Starting point

Nextgen may appear too heavy if all you want is a slideshow concentrated within a rectangle in your articles. Besides, you can’t really change its slideshow function’s parameters.

WordPress Gallery Slideshow is the complete opposite. It focuses on the slideshow, offers many parameters (such as the gallery’s size in the page, the wallpaper, the transitions type…) and it is open to outside feeds such as flickr.

Installation

Nothing special here.

Parameters

The plugin puts its options page in the Media > Slideshow menu. There you will find the main options, applied by default to any new gallery:

Options de wordpress gallery slideshow

Wordpress gallery slideshow options

Be aware that you will be able to personnalize these options once you integrate the gallery into the article.

Integrating photos in an article

The author explains in his documentation that adding a minimum of two pictures is enough to display the “Gallery” tab in the medias window:

Vue d'une galerie dans la fenêtre des médias

Gallery screenshot in the medias window

Just type [ slide ] without spaces, somewhere in the article’s copy.

As written above, it is now possible to personalize some options, for example: [ slide id="1" with="123" height="345" ].

Among other interesting options there is ID, which allows you to integrate the gallery from any other article.

Flickr galleries

The icing on the cake is that this plugin can display flickr galleries without the need for another plugin. To do so use the flickr option, indicating the flickr gallery’s RSS feed (you will find its address at the bottom of your gallery, on flickr).

Example: [ slide flickr="feed address" ]

The trick: don’t let wordpress replace the & amp ; of the url by & or anything else, otherwise it won’t work! If necessary, switch to html code and copy your flickr gallery’s RSS feed url.

Here’s the result…
